Week 4 Reader's Response

After analyzing your main character in a closer manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-chart or in paragraph form, compare and contrast these two characters. Determine which one you identify the most with and why.

I still reading "Bear-stone" and Cloyd is the main character of the book. Ben Ross is the main character of "the wave" that's the book we are reading in my literacy class. Cloyd is the one i feel identify with. I feel identify with him because he is an open-minded person and, because he is a teenager like me. Also because he a risk taker and a thinker.

Week 3: April 18 - April 22, 2011

Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss:
-1. your main character's personality
- 2. how they act/behave
- 3. what they look like
- 4. how old they are
- 5 what sort of education do you think that they have
- 6 who their friends and family are
- 7 what their financial (money) situation is
- 8 and what their job is (if they have one)

I am still reading Bear stone by Will Hobbs. My main character name is Cloyd, he is a loner and a trouble maker at the beginning of the book but then he turns into a very nice person. You can see the way Cloyd look like in the front cover of the book,he is wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, and he has long hair. I don't know exactly how old is Cloyd. I think he only finish the elementary school because he gets sent to work on a farm. Cloyd's friend is Walter: Walter is an old man who owns a farm bordering a mountainside, who is a new widower, and is given the responsibility to keep track of cloyd.

Once Cloyd gets sent to the farm his financial situation change because he doesn't live with the trive anymore. Cloyd  job is to take care of the horse in the farm. Rusty is  a bear hunter.

Week 2 - April 4 - April 8, 2011

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel.

As i continue to read Bear-Stone, I'm finding it a little difficult  to answer this question because the back of the book doesn't only has a small description.

Well this are the two alternative titles I come up with.
alternative title #1:Looking for the happiness
alternative title #2:To the top of  the mountain(catch phrase-If you're carefully, you could follow it, at least for a way.)

I can decide which title is the best because both tell a lot about the book, But I think my new design will work for both titles. My new design will be a big mountain. there will be trees in the bottom of the mountain. The main character of the book will be trying to go to the top of the mountain.

week 1 3/18/11 what I'm reading now...

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre -from the back of the book, title page, text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) that you have met so far and on what page you first met them. Use complete sentences and ensure that you have proficient mechanics.

The book I'm reading now is call Bear-Stone by Will Hobbs, which was publish in 1985 by Arte Publico Press. This book has an action and adventure genre.

The cover of the book is a big mountain with the form of a bear and there is a girl in front of the mountain, and it has the title write in big white words. I really like  the cover of the book because the way  it describes what the book is about.

I'm in the beginning of the and I've only met one character call Cloyd in page 1. The reason why i have only met this character is because in the beginning she is just telling her personal story and how she grow up in the mountains with the group of people that take care of her.

As we are reading poetry and looking at various parts of poems,
can you notice some of the same figurative language in your independent reading?
Using your notes from this week, give examples of each of the parts of figurative
language we've been discussing. You may not find all types. If you can’t find any, look
at the poem you put on the moodle or the lyrics to your favorite song.

Week 4 11.29.10 - 12.3.10

We've been looking and studying how we relate to our characters and the real world around us. Now it's time to put yourself into your character's shoes. Thinking about the main character of your book, consider what you would do in their situation.  1. What would your reactions be? 2. How would you handle the situation? 3. What would you do differently? Be sure to use complete sentences and EVIDENCE to support your thinking.

I am reading  Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers. The main character is Walter and he is  having problems in his science class, and his math class. also he keep having problems with a guy call Manuel bonilla. Walter said that the only class he likes is his literacy class because he loves to read.

In his math class his teacher kick him out of the class because he was fighting with Manuel. His math  teacher send him to the office.

"School was becoming a disaster.Simple formulas in chemistry eluded me. Math problems
that I should have handled easily became mysteries."pg142

My reaction I think would be different than Walter's because I would choice to talk to Manuel because I wouldn't want to get in trouble.I wouldn't fight with him in the classi think walter was very brusque. But after school I would went up to him and fight.

9.27.10 - 10.1.10 Week 7

It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books, who the characters are and what the theme is. In your response, outline the following: Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. Provide evidence to support your thinking from your book.

I`m in the beginning of Bad boy by Walter Dean Myers. The  setting of my book have changed three times in the first chapter, and then it change to New York in the second chapter.I think the main setting is New York because there is  where the main character lives, as seen in page 6.

So far in my book the plot appears to be that the character`s family doesn`t have a lot of money so they have to work really hard. I think the universal theme is how society acts and reacts.
